What to Expect

​

Centreville Baptist Church is a friendly church. When you enter the door, for the first time or the one hundredth time, someone will be there to welcome you and make you feel at home. We don’t have a Sunday dress code. People come as they feel comfortable. Some wear jackets and tie and dresses while others are dress very casual, with jeans and t-shirts. Whatever you are comfortable wearing is good enough!  You will find the service is a mix of traditional and contemporary services with the regular use of audio visual material, Powerpoints, and web access.

When you enter the building, people will most likely be milling around, conversing around a cup of coffee, tea or water. The worship space will be straight ahead. We begin our service by greeting each other and then singing some contemporary Christian songs, led by a worship team. The choir or individuals will often provide music for reflection following the worship time. The children then have their own message, led by a pastor or someone from the congregation. After this, the children go to Sunday School.

An offering is taken and people give as they feel led to. Our guests are certainly not obligated to give. This is followed by a pastoral prayer, bringing to God the concerns of His people in Centreville and beyond. A prayer request book is located at the entrance of the worship space for people to write in their specific request which will be prayed for by the pastor and the two prayer groups that meet during the week.

The message is an important aspect of our worship at Centreville Baptist. This is the time when the pastor reflects on a given Bible passage to encourage, guide and teach the congregation. God’s word is fascinating and offers much to enrich each person’s life. Interspersed throughout the service, we also sing some hymns which are Christian songs of praise or of prayer offered to God.

On the first Sunday of every month, we remember Jesus’ Last Supper. On that day, we share some bread and "wine" together as we reflect on the great love that God as showed His people by sending Jesus to proclaim the Good News and offer His life as a sacrifice for us. The Communion is open to any Christian, regardless of their background.
